ACCEPT JOB OFFER MINDFULLY - RENEGING LEADS TO FAIL

Dear Students,

The School would like to remind you that if you accept a job or internship offer—verbally or in writing—you are expected to honour that commitment. If you withdraw after accepting, it will be recorded as a fail (CU). This applies to any form of acceptance (verbal, written, via TalentConnect or other channels), regardless of whether the contract has been signed.

Before you accept an offer, please take time to carefully evaluate the following:

Role and responsibilities: Are they aligned with your goals and skills?
Compensation and benefits: Do you fully understand the package?
Location, work arrangement, and start/end dates: Can you meet these commitments?
Academic and personal commitments: Will this conflict with your course load, exams, or other obligations?
Other pending applications: Are you waiting on outcomes from other employers, and do you have clear timelines?

If you need more time:

Ask the employer politely for a reasonable deadline extension to make an informed decision.
Seek advice from the Career Advisors before confirming.

If you decide not to proceed:

Decline professionally before giving any acceptance.
Do not accept multiple offers “to hold a spot.” Accepting implies commitment.

Why this matters:

Reneging after acceptance will result in a fail (CU) and may impact your standing in relevant programmes or courses.
It can affect your future opportunities, the NUS student community, and NUS’ relationships with employers.

If you have questions or need guidance on handling offers, timelines, or communications with employers, please reach out to AskIR@comp.nus.edu.sg or the SoC Career Advisors before you accept.

Regards,

NUS School of Computing, Internships
